PROMIL® Four continues to partner with parents in Nurturing Every Child’s Gift

Celebrity Actress/Host Ms. Dimples Romana hosted the said event last November 7, 2017, held at Sofitel.

November 7, 2017— As part of this year’s celebration of the Gifted Awareness Month, PROMIL® Four, in partnership with the Philippine Center for Gifted Education (PCGE), conducted a Learning Workshop, that features expert speakers in the field of Developmental Pediatrics, Clinical Psychology, Obstetrics, Health & Wellness, Arts, and Nutrition, recently at the Sofitel Philippines Plaza Manila in Pasay City.

The said event is in line with the brand’s theme of “Shaping the Gift to Build Tomorrow’s Greats.” It gathered celebrity and blogger parents, who participated in a series of workshops and activities in a bid to educate them on the importance of building a strong foundation for their child’s learning abilities.

According to Dra. Leticia Ho, Clinical Psychologist/Neurotherapist and President of Philippine Center for Gifted Education, the future will be different for children. In the face of an ever-changing world, they will need to learn a different set of skills. The best period to nurture these abilities lies in the crucial first 1,000 days of the child, starting with the mother’s pregnancy. It is during these days that the child responds and adapts to different interventions.

“A child’s development results from an ongoing and cumulative process of nurturing. This means that your child’s brain development can be affected by both environmental and intrinsic factors,” added Ho. “This event aims to educate the parents on the proper tools and approach to help shape their child’s gift. With the proper parenting, proper stimulation, and proper nutrition we believe that your child can reach his full potential.”

PROMIL® Four’s Learning Workshop highlights three different activities that show the advantage of multi-dimensional development in nurturing a child’s gift to its full potential. These activities are based on three learning zones focused on the physical, mental, and socio-emotional development.

The physical activity focused on the importance of growth and immunity to strengthen physical agility through a yoga class. As a productive meditation activity, it showed how yoga can stimulate body movement and sensory experiences for children. It also promotes multi-dimensional learning as it encourages balance and coordination, focus and concentration, mind and body connection, and self-awareness and mindfulness.

Meanwhile, the mental activity featured an art workshop developed to encourage recognition and memory. This activity focused on bringing the experience on how art can develop a child’s memory through storytelling and painting while inculcating repetitive practices and rhythms.

As a Mom who always focused to my kids, it’s a wonderful experience to attend an interesting workshops.

Lastly, the camp also has a social activity, through a giant block game, focused on the need of being socially adept for better learning. It underlined how an imaginative game can promote strong leadership qualities in children through imagination, communication, and collaboration.

Meanwhile, PROMIL® Four’s Learning Camp also emphasized the importance nutrition plays in supporting a child’s advanced learning abilities. “Proper nutrition plays an essential role in your child’s brain development. With the right nutrients, it can further support a child’s advanced learning abilities,” added Ma. Neva Luna Batayola, Medical Director.

To end the event, Dra. Leticia Penano-Ho, President of Phil Center for Gifted Education gave a key take away message and that is “Every child has the talent which can be a Gift if discovered and nurtured early. It is the parent’s role to make the child’s talent reach his full potential, or else that gift could just be there untapped and undiscovered.”

Aside from the Learning Workshop, this year, PROMIL® Four is also partnering with Atlantis Production. They will be showcasing awe-inspiring talents in the local production of Matilda the Musical, a theater play that features the story of a gifted child.

The three child actors, who will portray the lead role of the play are Esang De Torres of ABS-CBN’s “The Voice Kids” and “Les Miserables” Asian Tour; Uma Naomi Martin of “A Little Princess”; and Gawad Musika’s Outstanding Child Performer, Felicity Kyle Napuli. This musical play will run from November 10 to December 10, 2017. Promil Four is raffling out free Matilda tickets, visit for more information.

PROMIL® Four has long been known for nurturing the young Filipino’s gift. It is specially formulated for children above three years old and is the only brand that contains NUTRISSENTIALS®—the combination of the unique and important nutrients that help support mental & physical development to help Nurture the Gift, together with balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Save the Children’s #LahatSanta campaign wants you to put on your Santa hat and be a hero for kids

Last October 30, 2017. I attended Save the Children’s Christmas Campaign called #LahatSanta giving everyone an exciting opportunity to become Santa to poor kids.

Some of us considered Christmas season as their favorite time of the year. As they say, this is the time of love and giving. Since it’s the birth of our Savior, we also dedicate this special day to those in need especially the children.

“In the Philippines, 1 in 3 children suffers from stunted growth due to hunger and malnutrition, and this means that they won’t be able to reach their full potential. Poor families struggle to feed their children and it’s estimated that 1.5 million Filipino children go to sleep hungry every night, not having eaten a thing all day,” says Dr. Amado Parawan, Save the Children’s Health and Nutrition Advisor.

Save the Children encourages groups and companies to be creative in celebrating the holidays and to make it more meaningful through helping the Filipino children

Be a hero, wear a Santa sombrero!

Lahat Santa is a new fun way to celebrate Christmas! Save the Children encourages individuals, schools and companies to wear their Santa hats, raise funds in their own creative way and make the holidays much more meaningful by donating to Save the Children’s programs.

Upon signing up on, participants get a free fundraising kit which includes a coin bank, Christmas poster, and a Santa hat. The kit includes ways you can fundraise, from bake sale to the good old Christmas caroling – it is up to the participants how they’ll spread the cheer.

At the very young age of my lovely daughters, I encourage them to help kids in needs.

On the day of action on December 15, Save the Children calls on participants to put on their Santa hats and shout out on social media how they are fundraising for Save the Children using hashtag #LahatSanta. The fun does not stop here. On December 17, a fun run will be organized to benefit Save the Children’s Christmas campaign.

Filipino artists and influencers such as Ria Atayde, Bianca Guidotti, Jeushl Wensh Tiu, and Trish Ramos have also expressed interest in the campaign. Many reputable companies have also come together to support Save the Children’s campaign, including BPI Foundation, Family Mart, Strong Media Advertising Solutions Inc., Light Network, Nyxsys, OLX, ANC, Business Mirror, Page One, Manila Scope, Philippine Graphic, Lamudi, Manila Times, Manila Bulletin, Manila Business Insight, Pilipino Mirror, Zen Health and When In Manila.

“With every Lahat Santa hat comes great responsibility. Your commitment to Lahat Santa campaign could mean life-saving support for a child. Your donation can provide treatment to babies suffering from malnutrition and help expand our programs that could impact their lives in the long run, Save the Children’s Head of Strategic Partnerships, Riel Andaluz, reminds the public.

This is the special coin bank and it also includes poster and Santa Hat.

Steps to join #LahatSanta campaign:

  • First SIGN UP on to receive a free fundraising pack which includes your coin bank, Christmas poster, and your Santa hat for December 15!
  • PLAN your fundraising activity and gather your family and friends from work and school to help you out. Whether this is through a garage sale, good old caroling, selling artwork and doing Christmas dares. Because you are the Santa, we want you to be as creative as possible.
  • SEND your donations to Save the Children. The sooner we receive it, the sooner we can put it to good use.
  • WEAR your Santa hat on December 15 and have a shout out post or selfie using hashtag #LahatSanta selfie to show us how you are fundraising for children!

So what are you waiting for, make a change now!

National Pampering Day 2

Last October 17, 2017 at all Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa branches nationwide during the celebration of its 2nd National Pampering Day

Nailaholics celebrated the 2nd National Pampering Day in support to World Vision, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society, and Save Philippine Seas

Some Filipinos perceive pampering to be a very self-indulgent activity. This is not surprising at all because it is in our culture to think of others’ welfare before our own and that is why sometimes the thought of relaxation and pampering gives us unnecessary guilt.
What we need to understand is that we all deserve real relaxation and pampering once in a while. It is more than just a time out of your busy day; it can actually prevent, delay and reduce most health problems including mental health issues. Self-care without the guilt is what the number one nail salon in the country promoted during its recently concluded national event.

Thousands of stressed-out Filipinos across the Philippines went in for a free pampering service of their choice (a soothing manicure, a calming foot spa, or a relaxing foot massage) last October 17, 2017 at all Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa branches nationwide during the celebration of its 2nd National Pampering Day, in partnership with the most beloved nail lacquer brand in the world, OPI.

More than just experiencing real pampering, everyone who participated in the National Pampering Day knew they are going to feel good inside and out. Each guest was asked which partner organization of Nailaholics they would like to support prior to getting pampered.

Those who chose World Vision supported the rehabilitation of Marawi City. Some were able to help protect our country’s rich but threatened marine and coastal resources by supporting Save Philippine Seas and others supported The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in preventing animal cruelty and promoting the adoption of stray dogs and cats.

“We are very happy to share that this year, we were able to de-stress more Filipinos –double of last year’s count. We have been very sincere in our efforts to promote real pampering to the rest of the Filipinos and this year, it is made special as we were able to support the causes of our partner organizations” said Arvin Amaro, Marketing Head of Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa.

“The celebration of National Pampering Day is also our way of thanking our loyal customers for all their support and patronage throughout the years. We are excited to welcome more Filipinos into our yearly pampering treat next year” added Amaro.

The 2017 job happiness index report

Filipinos are less happy in the workplace –
Correspondents said salary increase, getting a new job will make them happier in 6 months

MANILA, October 25, 2017 – The Philippines’ job satisfaction level dropped from 5.25 in 2016 to its current rating of 4.97 on a 10-point scale. According to’s 2017 Job Happiness Index, the key factors associated with unhappiness at work are lack of career development and training opportunities, as well as the management style of a company’s leadership team. surveyed 9,326 Philippine respondents from July 31 to August 31, 2017. The respondents were from different position levels (predominantly junior executives and supervisors) and represented a diverse mix of specializations. Fifty-six percent of respondents came from the National Capital Region, 12% from Southern Tagalog, 7% from overseas, 6% from Central Luzon, and 5% from Cebu City/Province.

“More and more Filipinos are looking for career development. They want to move forward in their chosen fields, but the lack of career development and training opportunities in their current companies seem to hold them back,” Country Manager Philip Gioca said.

When respondents were asked what will make them happier in the next six months, 33% said a salary increase would help, but 23% wish to resign and get a new job.

According to their latest survey, relationship to colleagues is the top factor why employees makes happy followed by the work location. Colleagues becomes friends and it is a bonus if you are closed with them.  Because of the heavy traffic now a days. work location is very important. How luck those who work just nearby or within the vicinity of their workplace.

Colleagues and work location make Filipinos happy at workThe respondents who said they were happy cited colleagues, work location, and company reputation as the top three drivers of workplace satisfaction. This is largely true across all demographics.

Baby Boomers are the happiest.According to the study, in terms of generations, baby boomers, or those born before 1960, are the happiest at 5.63, followed by the those belonging to Generation Z at 5.10.

The same can be said in terms of position level, where the top executives or the more established segment of the workforce, which are expectedly populated by the baby boomers, as well as the Fresh Graduates, have the highest happiness score.

I searched job that fit my qualifications through Jobstreet. Their website is very helpful especially those fresh graduates who wants to apply in their dream job.

Generation Xers barely managed to score above neutral at 5, while millennials, who compose the majority of workplaces, are below neutral with an average of 4.9.

“The results of this study serve as a wake-up call for companies who wonder why there is such a high turnover rate. Career development, training opportunities, and the management style of the company’s leadership team are just some of the reasons why many Filipinos are unhappy in the workplace. It would be best if managers can get to the heart of why this is happening as each company’s DNA is unique,” Gioca added.

The 2017 Job Happiness Index was conducted in Southeast Asia, with a sample size of 35,513. Job satisfaction is highest in Indonesia (5.27), followed by Vietnam (5.19), the Philippines (4.97), Malaysia (4.65), Thailand (4.55), Hong Kong (4.45), and Singapore (4.31).

Which cancer tests do you need?

MediCard Lifestyle Center-for cancer article
At MediCard Lifestyle Center Breast Clinic in Makati (shown in photo), women breast surgeons who specialize in breast conditions are available for consultations
Remember, early detection of a disease always saves lives. This is especially true for cancer.
Cancer that is detected early is more likely to be treated successfully. The chances of the disease’s spread in the body are also reduced significantly.  After the disease has spread, treatment becomes more difficult.
MediCard president and CEO Dr. Nicky Montoya says it is important for people to undergo early screening particularly for some of the most common cancers – cervical, colon, and breast.
Dr. Montoya identifies the cancer tests needed:
Cervical cancer screening (Pap test).  Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the cervix grows out of control. Women aged 21 to 30, or are sexually active, should have a pap test or pap smear, a microscopic analysis of cervical tissue samples, every three years. High-risk women have to be screened more often. Risk factors include a family history of cancer, use of birth control pills for five or more years, and a history of HPV (Human papillomavirus) infection, the most common sexually transmitted disease. A pap test takes about 10-20 minutes. The doctor swabs the cervix to get a sample of cells. The sample will be sent to a laboratory for testing and the results will be available after a few days.
Colon cancer test. Several screenings are available to detect cancer of the colon such as Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy and stool testing. In colonoscopy, the colon is checked for cancerous or precancerous polyps, or abnormal growths in the rectum or colon, through a flexible tube with a light and camera at the tip. Sigmoidoscopy is similar to colonoscopy but it only examines the rectum and the lower (sigmoid) portion of the colon. For stool testing, a sample of the stool is tested for small traces of blood that may indicate colon cancer.
Dr. Montoya says, “People should undergo colonoscopy starting from age 45.  They should  talk to their doctors about the pros and cons of the test based on their health and risk factors. Younger people should consider testing if they are at high risk.” Risk factors include family history of cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, obesity, smoking, type 2 diabetes, excessive alcohol consumption, and a diet high in processed meats.
Breast cancer test (Mammogram). Doctors recommend a monthly breast self-examination. Breast cancer screening helps check a woman’s breast for cancer before signs or symptoms of the disease appear. A mammogram, or X-ray of the breast, is so far the best way to detect cancer early. Women aged 50 to 74 should undergo mammogram every two years, especially if they have a high risk of getting the disease. Risk factors are dense breasts, menstrual periods that begin before age 12 or end after age 55, not having a child before age 30, postmenopausal hormone-replacement therapy, obesity, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption.
At MediCard Lifestyle Center Breast Clinic, women breast surgeons who specialize in breast conditions are available for consultations. The doctors can screen for lumps using digital mammogram and breast ultrasound, or even conduct biopsy using mammotome, which enables doctors to collect tissue samples and make highly accurate breast cancer diagnosis without the need for open surgery.

MediCard has several free-standing clinics in key cities nationwide that offer consultations, tests and vaccinations. Visit a MediCard clinic near you.
